Hi, My Task Is To Find As Much Similarities And Differences Between These Two Poems And Mainly EXPLAIN …….
The Soldier
IF I should die, think only this of me:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field
That is forever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England’s, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by the suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
DULCE ET DECORUM EST
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares2 we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest3 began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots4
Of tired, outstripped5 Five-Nines6 that dropped behind.

YOU ARE INSANE. Satan is evil. the Christian god shouldn’t had created him in the first place then he couldn’t hurt people. I bet I can come up with someone ten time more powerful and more Eviler then him. I made a character that can even make Satan Cry. Satan is EVil. plus he doesn’t exist. me I’m Pagan I believe in the Greek and Roman gods. If there was a guy like Satan in my religion I would never ever serve them. I rather get the s.h.i.t beat out of me then serve a Evil mastermind like him.

Jagged Edge song. . .?
Does anyone know where I can find the song "My Queen" by Jagged Edge besides on Yahoo music? Preferably somewhere I can download/buy it from, but just to listen to it online would be fine as well.
It’s not on Rhapsody or iTunes. . .
I heard it on Yahoo! Launch Radio for the first time about 4 or 5 years ago. The album name they have is the same as the song, as if it’s a single, but the year says 1900, which is odd. I wonder if Yahoo messed up when naming the song/artist. It is an R&B song, though, and sounded very much like it could have been Jagged Edge. I haven’t heard it in a long time, so I don’t remember much about the song itself, except that it repeated "She’s my queen, oh woah" in the chorus.

IMDB rating: 5.60 Plot: Mr Karva runs a shady little empire in North London. We don’t know exactly how he makes his money but we know it’s probably not very nice. Mr Karva’s stepson, Othello, has ambitions to take the old man’s place; and Othello’s fainthearted friend, Emilio, has ambitions of his own. This delicate balance of power is upset when Roadrunner finds a strange, sickly-looking 10 year old boy in the park. All his life, Roadrunner has been on the move – but when he looks into the child’s eyes, he finds he can finally stop running. It becomes clear that the child can grant each character their own taste of heaven – the ‘perfect, rosy future of your dreams’. The child never talks but transforms the world around him, working on the desire in each character’s heart, whatever it may be. Othello wins every bet he makes; Christella finds a new son to replace the baby she lost; Mr. Karva achieves his elusive orgasm and Father Daniel is finally able to express his own secret passions. But nothing ever comes for free… |

your thoughts on international adoptions? are you pro or against? why?
I am curious about people’s views on international adoption.
I understand some folks think it is best if the child remains in his or her own country… but why so?
I have two brothers and two nieces adopted from another country.
The girls where brought to Canada when they where 3, my brothers where 13 and 11.
They come from a war torn country, guerillas frequently block the orphanage shipments of ffod and medical supplies, their government has cut off all funding for the children. They have been hit by severe famine and extreme malnutrition. There are no social programs to help out the children… in fact they are considred a burden.
Frequently the children eat nothing but mud pies (dirt, salt and sugar… a very real thing). The orphange is understaffed and often under attack.
One of my nieces’s mother died of TB not long after Bella was brought to the orphanage. Her father had died of AIDS not long after mom got pregnant. MY niece Alex was abandoned along the roadside that leeds to the orphange. No one knows where she came from or who her parents are.
My brothers mom died during childbirth. The father brought them to the orphange in hopes they would make it to a better country (it only deals in international adoptions). They are in contact with him… speaking regularly on the phone and send letters every few weeks. He has met my mother and adores her and the chance she has given his children.
So i nderstand the need to keep children in their own homeland.. but only to a certain extent.
These childrens lives depended on being removed fro Haiti. There was zero chance of their situation improving… it truly was life or death.
My mom and sister’s stories are different. My sister is overweight and most countries have a weight limit for PAPs, Haiti does not. Most countries require you to go and meet your child before you are permitted to leave the country with them, Haiti does not. Most countries attempt to keep the children there, adoption is considered the final option. Haiti on the other hand has no problem shiping them out. Adoptions fro Haiti cost (at least from Quebec) 16 000$ per child.
My sister desperatly wanted more children… My mom desperatly wanted to save their lives.
My sister refuses to speak of their adoption (kinda dumb since we are white and they are very dark skinned… no denying the genetics are different)
My mom ensures that they stay connected to their heritage. Like i said before they are in contact with their family in Haiti. She has them involved with the Haitian community where they live. They take Creole classes so they don’t loose their mother tongue. They listen mostly to Haitian music and her house is full of Haitian art. She did not adot to create a family, she adopted to give them a chance)
I believe my mother’s way of doing things is much much better than my sister’s.
My sister is selfish (although her girls are way better off than if they still lived in Haiti)
My mother is like a saint (not really but i like to think of her that way)
So what are your views on international adoptions?
Hi *Dominic*
I agree with you that your mother has a better approach than your sister concerning internationally-adopted children. I think there are moral responsibilities that must be upheld that some AP’s do not respect when it comes to the child & his/her family & heritage.
While you do have a basic grasp of IA on the surface, you could go deeper for greater understanding. For instance, all the reasons you list for why your sister had to adopt from Haiti have little to do with why those children would be best served by being placed specifically with HER and more to do with why SHE couldn’t go anywhere else to get children. So whose needs were considered first here?
Another example, wars in any country are certainly a terrible thing. Taking the children for others to adopt is a band-aid rather than a cure for the social problems there. Real humanitarian aid comes in the form of making communities & families stronger so they can nurture their own children in healthy, safe environments. When one looks at the bigger picture, it makes more sense. Fixing the root problems that lead to the perceived idea that adoption is necessary is the real answer. Charity is about helping entire families, not just taking away their children. You say other countries do not have programs that help them. That’s what the real need is then – to give them the oppportunities to get back on their own feet. They need help starting programs that will help them more than they need their children permanently taken away from them. Very few, if any parents really want to lose their children to adoption. We are talking about people in very desperate situations if adoption sounds like their best option. Brainstorm – let’s give them better options than to permanently lose their children! (Not talking specifically about you & your mother since you recognize a person’s right to stay connected to their heritage, but many other AP’s think adoption is all about them & their need for a family and sadly, they will disregard the child’s needs.)
There are other problems with IA as well. I will let the adult IA adoptees here address the issues of being severed from their families & homelands and losing everything as they have directly experienced that. Suffice to say that is a serious issue that causes pain to people that is hard for others to see.
Besides there being other ways to help children & families, I do not support the idea of international adoption because of all the corruption involved in a system that remains unregulated and involves child trafficking. As long as the demand for children exists in the West, the rest of the world will create the supply to meet it. Please take a look at my links listed under sources for news articles that address some ethical concerns in IA. Those will give you a better idea of why so many people are speaking out against IA. Too many babies are stolen. Too much money is exchanged in what should not even be tolerated as businesses. Identities & families are stolen from innnocent children. IA blatently violates the UN Convention on the rights of the child. Most of the children sent off to be adopted are not even orphans! It has gotten so bad that some countries programs have been shut down. Then you will see adoption businesses pop up in other vulnerable countries around the world leading to the next "hot spot" to exploit & harvest for their children.
One thing you will notice, that for all the evidence that unethical practices exist, nobody will come forth saying it’s true for THEIR family. Nobody sees their part they play in the continuation of IA so it continues. Treating adoption as a real solution to the problems in other countries only perpetuates their problems & makes them worse. It does nothing to help the people still there. It ensures that more children will still be in need tomorrow. And the solution to the future children in need? Adopt them too. Those are not real answers. Would it really be that bad if we tried to REDUCE the number of children & families who need help so they can become self-sufficient? Who could possibly be opposed to that idea? Oh yeah, those who "need" children & can’t get them anywhere else….
Thank you for asking our views. The gut reaction of those who are not adoption knowledgeable is that those opposed to IA must not want to help children. Nothing could be further from the truth. We do want what is best for them. We don’t feel that children need to be removed from their own countries in order to have what is the birthright of every child – food, shelter, love, care. IA demands that children give up too much in return for that. Entire villages of families could be helped for what is spent on the typical adoption of one child. It would truly go a long way towards making a real difference. Then multiply that by the 1000’s of adoptions annually. A sad fact is too many adopting families just do not care about those left behind. They only care about what they want – a child. And many purposely do IA so that there is more of an assurance the child will never have any other family besides the adoptive one. I do not feel that is in the child’s best interests either.

If a child obviously needs a better home, and anyone on this earth can give it to him/her, I’m for it. Adoption should not be looked at as taboo. Not all children that are adopted are "stolen" from their parents. Some people just can’t care for their kids. Some don’t want to, and others are not fit to be parents.
I have a 6 year old foster child that begs me almost daily to adopt her and her 2 year old sister. She doesn’t want to return to her birth mother, because her step father is abusive. The mom won’t leave the step dad, and neither parent is trying to change in order to get the kids back. I tell my daughter that we have to wait for the judge to make his decision. Her job is to be a kid and let the grown ups worry about everything else.
By the way, my girls are chinese, but American because they were born in America. Even though they have chinese decent, neither of them speak the language. They have only been in foster care for a few months, so that’s not my fault. I’m just saying that my girls don’t know anything about their heritage, and they have lived with their mom, up until recently. The mom does speak the language, and she herself was born in China. So not all children stay connected to their roots, even when the parent living in America is from the "homeland"

My issues with IA:
1-The people who do it to avoid "baby mama drama" meaning they can’t handle the idea of their children having another set of parents so they adopt internationally where they are much less likely to have to deal with those troublesome, meddling biological parents. If you can’t handle the fact that your child will have another family, you shouldn’t be adopting.
2-People who adopt internationally and make no effort to preserve the child’s connection to their culture, don’t bother to learn their language, change their names and some who even go so far as to change their appearance so they will "fit in with their new family". If you want the child to fit in with your family, why don’t you change -yourself-. The kid didn’t ask to be torn away from everything they know and plopped down in a strange place with strange people. -You- made that choice for them, so -you- do what ever changes need to happen. Not to mention, adopting children and then attempting to change everything about them -inherently- sends the message that something is wrong with them and they aren’t good enough, which is a terrible message to give to any child.
3-People who do it because it is trendy or because they are fetishizing other races or view them as accessories ("Asian girls are so beautiful! I want to adopt one of those!"). Children are not accessories or puppies or any other item to be bought and sold and marketed for the buyers. These people are clearly not caring about "the best interest of the child" so much as they are caring about themselves.
4-The amount of disgustingly unethical practices that have been exposed related to international adoption (stealing children to put up for adoption, buying children to put up for adoption, baby farms). If you are working with international agencies, you have so little control and so little information about the true circumstances. In my opinion it is almost impossible to ensure you are adopting under ethical circumstances and I would never condone unethical adoptions.
Cambria | Nov 21, 2009
I used to be for International Adoptions, but now I am less so because of so many reports of babies being stolen from mothers in order to keep up the supply for the cash cow. There is a lot of money changing hands, and none of it is going at all to support the children left behind in the orphanages.
IF I adopt, it will be from my mom’s coworkers home town in a former USSR country. The history of each and every child is known and I know that these children were not stolen and will otherwise spend their lives in an overcrowded orphanage. It is likely that I will even be able to remain in contact with family members. This is not the usual situation for most Americans adopting overseas.
Your mom sounds like a very interesting, involved person. Good for her!
Doodlestuff | Nov 21, 2009
IA feeds a demand that is increasingly being supplied unethically. Almost weekly I am reading stories about IA children who have been stolen/kidnapped from their families, child trafficking etc.
On top of that, if you are going to adopt internationally, live in that country and give back to the community you are adopting from.
I don’t agree with adoption at all anyway and IA is no different.
myst1998 | Nov 21, 2009
I am on the fence on international adoptions. I don’t like the thought of child trafficking, but I do like the thought of kids with no homes and a pretty dismal future getting a better chance with life. I am uncomfortable with the separation of culture. In North America our culture is small – we don’t have the same sense of history and tradition that a lot of these countries do, esp Asian ones. I don’t think we can always appreciate what it would mean to grow up cut off from that culture, and become an adult feeling like you will never really understand your birth heritage. That said, my husband and I did consider adopting an older child while we are in Korea. Before anyone sends me hate mail, wait a second. We speak the language reasonably well, (both still take lessons, the subtleties of Korean are formidable), have lived here for years and intend to live here years more, have both studied Korean history and culture, and are active about enjoying local festivals, celebrations, and visiting areas of cultural significance. I do think that some kids are better off in international care then they would be say, returned to abusive situations, or left in orphanages that are understaffed, underfunded and do nothing to deal with the emotional trauma associated with the level of social stigma they receive. In the end we choose not to pursue adoption – the child would still suffer from a great deal of negative attention here being raised by foreigners, and we weren’t sure we would be able to adequately deal with any emotional issues the child might have across the culture gap – and choose instead to do volunteer work with some local orphanages and so on as a way to help make changes.

IMDB rating: 6.00 Plot: Based on Mary Shelly’s novel, the hair-raising movie tells the sad story of Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Brannagh), a promising young scientist. The doctor was so devastated by his mother’s death during childbirth that he became obsessed with the idea of bringing the deceased back to life, unaware of the consequences of his actions. The result of his experiment with the remains of the corpse and electricity was a simple, seemingly harmless creature (Robert De Niro) which, however, turned into a wrathful and vindictive monster after his ”father” abandoned him. Dr. Frankenstein wished he had never created him! |

OMG what a bias statement. May I ask what dances you were at to see the white folks dance? Don’t be ridiculous. People can either dance or they can’t and over the years there have been popular styles that today look moronic’. And then some are beautiful. How can I introduce my boyfriend to my sycotic mother?
I’m going to try to keep this as simple as possible.
My best friend gave my email to a guy about a year ago and we’ve been talking. I mean we hit it of after our first conversation. He’s funny, sensitive, cute, and mature. I seriously think he could be the one (no rude comments please). A few minutes ago he told me that he loves me and I realized how much I actually care about him. He lives in New York which ironically is where me and my mom are going next week and of coarse we’ve already planned where we are going to meet and I really want to introduce him to my mother since I’m tired of hiding this from her. She’s not open to new people. Especially guys around my age which brings us to another problem. I’m almost 14 and he just turned 17. I just want her to get to know him for who he is. In ten years the age will be no big deal so I don’t see why people make a fuss over it at this age.
Please help me when it comes to getting her to understand. If your a parent how would you react?
We’ve been on video chat so we’ve seen each other. And I never said that we never met. We did over the summer my mom just didn’t meet him
she’s really unexceptive of new people
Keep Throwing impressing things about him at your mom
then when she will already like him it will be fine…
